| Introduction |
 |
Plastic or cosmetic surgery is a medical specialty that deals with the correction or restoration of various parts of the body. Plastic surgery also includes two main fields: cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. Plastic/ cosmetic surgery is useful to victims of accidents, injuries or for aesthetic purposes like improvement of the nose, lips, tummy, breast, etc. |
Plastic Surgery |
Cosmetic Surgery is defined as a subspecialty of surgery that uniquely restricts itself to the enhancement of appearance through surgical and medical techniques. It is specifically concerned with maintaining normal appearance, restoring it, or enhancing it beyond the average level towards an aesthetic ideal. |
Reconstructive Surgery |
| Reconstructive plastic surgery is usually performed to improve function, but it may be done to approximate a normal appearance. It is generally covered by insurance coverage but this may change according to the procedure required. |

Liposuction |
The concept of liposuction is surprisingly simple. Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body's contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube, called a cannula (from the Latin word for reed, tube, cane). The cannula is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After liposuction surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse and thus result in an improved body contour.
Procedure
There are many ways to do a liposuction, for example liposuction can be painlessly accomplished, either totally by local anesthesia or with general anesthesia. In the realm of liposuction, maximum speed and maximum volume of aspirate are not criteria for excellence. Ultimately, excellence is measured in terms of patient happiness which is a function of safety, comfort, finesse, and quality of results.
Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction refers to a technique that uses large volumes of very dilute local anesthesia that is injected into the fat causing the targeted areas to be come tumescent, or swollen and firm. Local anesthesia is widely regarded as the safest form of anesthesia. Because local anesthesia persists for many hours there is no need for narcotic pain medications after surgery. This technique of liposuction is usually deemed to be the most beneficial.
Advantages of Tumescent Liposuction
- Safest Technique
- Smoother Cosmetic Results
- Rapid Healing
- Rapid Drainage

Tummy Tuck |
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery that flattens your abdomen by removing extra fat and skin, and tightening muscles in your abdominal wall.
Once the abdomen has been stretched by pregnancy or weight gain, it often fails to return to its original shape, as they are lengthened beyond the capacity to return to normal. When dieting or exercise does not work, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) can provide a long-lasting solution.
Procedure
A tummy tuck usually begins with a relatively long incision across the abdomen, from hip bone to hip bone. The shape of the incision is like a smile, with a flat bottom. During the tummy tuck surgery, the flat part of the smile occurs at the bottom point of the abdomen immediately above the pubic area. A second incision is made around the belly button to free it from the abdominal tissue. Hysterectomy or other women related surgeries can be combined with the tummy tuck procedure, which facilitates a one time recovery. Tummy tuck requires only a general anaesthesia, and can be performed as a one day surgery (out-patient) procedure, taking approximately 3 hours.
Post surgery, there is a restriction on driving for 2 weeks and one can return to unrestricted activities within 5 weeks.

Nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty) |
Rhinoplasty is the medical term used for a nose job or reshaping of the nose. This surgery is usually performed by an otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon, maxillofacial surgeon, or plastic surgeon as a reconstructive or cosmetic surgery. Rhinoplasty can be combined with other surgical procedures such as chin augmentation to enhance the aesthetic results.
Reconstructive Rhinoplasty
Reconstructive rhinoplasty refers to restoring the normal shape and function of the nose following damage from traumatic accident, autoimmune disorder, intra-nasal drug abuse, previous injudicious cosmetic surgery, cancer involvement, or congenital abnormality.
Corrective Rhinoplasty
Corrective rhinoplasty includes flattening large humps, narrowing width of nose, shaping tip of nose, and lifting or reducing tip of nose

Breast Augmentation |
Augmentation Mammoplasty is the medical term for breast augmentation which is also referred to as breast enhancement or breast enlargement.
Breast augmentation can be performed to make smaller breasts appear larger, balance breasts that are asymmetrical, or restore fullness that has diminished with age or as a result of pregnancy. For women who have recently lost weight, one of the least desirable areas where that loss may be apparent is in the breast area. Breast augmentation is a safe and effective method to replace breast volume loss due to age or the changing hormone levels of post child-bearing years. More than ever before, women have the ability to select from many surgical options that fit their needs and lifestyle.
Procedure
This type of plastic surgery involves placing silicone or saline breast implants either behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle to add size, shape, and fullness to the breast. The length of the breast augmentation recovery process depends heavily upon the patient’s condition, the degree of enlargement, and several other factors, but usually lasts between a few weeks and a couple of months. Breast augmentation results will also vary from person to person and are most satisfactory in patients who have reasonable expectations.

Breast Reduction |
Introduction
Reduction in size of breast by excising fat, skin, and glandular tissue, is known as breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty. This outpatient surgical procedure may also involve counteracting drooping of the breasts. Breast reduction is a common procedure which reduces the volume of the breast and reshapes the breast.
Breast reduction provides relief from pain, back and neck aches due to size of breast, poor posture, numbness of fingers and rashes under the breast.
Procedure
This operation involves reducing the size of the areola, reducing the volume of the breast and advancing the nipple and areola up into a more appropriate position.
Breast reduction takes 2 – 4 hours, & can be performed as a one day surgery (out-patient) procedure or may involve a short hospital stay. Breast shaping occurs over months & one can return to normal activities within 3-4 weeks.

Blepharoplasty |
Blepharoplasty is the medical term used for surgical correction of the eyelids, and can be both a functional and cosmetic surgical procedure intended to reshape the upper eyelid or lower eyelid.
Blepharoplasty on Upper Eyelid
An excess amount of skin in the upper eyelid may obstruct vision and may cause difficulty in driving or reading. In such circumstances, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to improve peripheral vision.
Blepharoplasty for Lower Eyelid
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve puffy lower eyelid "bags" and reduce the wrinkling of skin.
Procedure
There are two main types of incisions used for the blepharoplasty. The most common is just under the eyelashes of the eyelid. This is called the subciliary incision. The second type of incision is on the inside of the eyelid and is known trans-conjunctival incision.
