Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is usually performed to relieve physical problems with a secondary benefit of cosmetic improvement. Most women who have the surgery are seeking relief of very large, sagging breasts that restrict their activities and cause discomfort or even health problems. But women are not alone in their search for feeling better. Many men are having breast reduction surgery for the very same reasons, they want to reduce physical symptoms and improve the way they look.
For women, breast reduction isn't performed until a woman's breasts are fully developed; however, it can be done earlier if large breasts are causing serious physical discomfort. The best candidates are those who are mature enough to fully understand the procedure and have realistic expectations of the results. Breast reduction is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed.
Introduction
Reduction in size of breast by excising fat, skin, and glandular tissue, is known as breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty. This outpatient surgical procedure may also involve counteracting drooping of the breasts. Breast reduction is a common procedure which reduces the volume of the breast and reshapes the breast.
Breast reduction provides relief from pain, back and neck aches due to size of breast, poor posture, numbness of fingers and rashes under the breast.
Procedure
This operation involves reducing the size of the areola, reducing the volume of the breast and advancing the nipple and areola up into a more appropriate position.
Breast reduction takes 2 – 4 hours, & can be performed as a one day surgery (out-patient) procedure or may involve a short hospital stay. Breast shaping occurs over months & one can return to normal activities within 3-4 weeks.
Breast reduction is a procedure where excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed. The nipple and areola are lifted, and skin that was located above the nipple is brought down, pulled together and sutured to improve the shape and contour. The type of incision used depends on the size and shape of the breasts
