Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a cosmetic surgery that flattens your abdomen by removing extra fat and skin, and tightening muscles in your abdominal wall.
Once the abdomen has been stretched by pregnancy or weight gain, it often fails to return to its original shape, as they are lengthened beyond the capacity to return to normal. When dieting or exercise does not work, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) can provide a long-lasting solution.
Procedure
A tummy tuck usually begins with a relatively long incision across the abdomen, from hip bone to hip bone. The shape of the incision is like a
smile, with a flat bottom. During the tummy tuck surgery, the flat part of the smile occurs at the bottom point of the abdomen immediately above the pubic area. A second incision is made around the belly button to free it from the abdominal tissue. Hysterectomy or other women related surgeries can be combined with the tummy tuck procedure, which facilitates a one time recovery. Tummy tuck requires only a general anaesthesia, and can be performed as a one day surgery (out-patient) procedure, taking approximately 3 hours.
Post surgery, there is a restriction on driving for 2 weeks and one can return to unrestricted activities within 5 weeks. Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a Tummy Tuck, is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure used to tighten overly stretched abdominal muscles and skin in an effort to achieve a smoother, flatter appearance. Whether stretched by factors such as weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, etc., the abdomen frequently fails to return to its original shape. Stretched beyond the capacity to return to normal, abdominal tissues don't always respond to various exercise and diet programs. In such cases, a tummy tuck may provide a highly effective, immediate solution in the treatment of stubborn abdominal areas. In short, a tummy tuck may dramatically tighten the abdominal muscles as well as remove sagging, excess skin and accumulated fatty tissue. As an added benefit of the tummy tuck, not only will the abdominal region be firmer and flatter, but the waist will be smaller as well. While the degree of improvement varies significantly depending on the magnitude of the abdominoplasty surgery, other factors contribute to the surgical outcome such as the patient's skin tone, body build, and the individual healing process. Aside from these issues, most patients are happy with the results offered through abdominoplasty and maintain a more favorable body image following the surgery.
